Audcom NZ Ltd started life as an audio and communications consultancy (hence the name) originally in Wellington City, but since 2000 it has been based in Hutt City.
Owner and managing director of the company is Wayne Newth.
Audcom NZ was originally a commercial radio station operator, creating New Zealand's first fully-automated, 24 hour, Top 40 music radio station - "The Heat 91.7FM" Wellington and 94.3FM on the Kapiti Coast (in partnership with SM Network Ltd).
Although 'The Heat' was a totally New Zealand station (with kiwi music, Wellington commercials and local information) it was programmed by the ABC in Dallas, Texas. It first went to air in February 1992 and quickly established itself as a major player in New Zealand's youth-oriented radio market.
Because international satellite technology was too limited at the time for a 'live' service, the station's programmes were couriered to Wellington on Bernoulli removable hard disk drives daily from the USA.
This was cutting-edge stuff in the early 90's and it led to the eventual investment in computer technology by Audcom NZ Ltd.
